Workshop on “Food Innovations and the SDGs”

We are thrilled to announce the successful organization of our workshop on “Food Innovations and the SDGs” in collaboration with FOODI Info Day at the Asian Institute of Technology. The event took place on March 25, 2022, and aimed to inspire action towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Utilizing a hybrid format, the workshop featured a plenary session in the morning, with presentations from invited experts. In the afternoon, participants were actively engaged in a hackathon-style activity, where they worked on ideas related to the theme, drawing from challenges and case studies.

At the conclusion of the workshop, we recognized two outstanding teams as winners of “The Best IDEA” and “The Best PRESENTATION” categories. These teams received cash prizes and certificates in recognition of their remarkable contributions. We would like to extend our gratitude to the project Foodi Erasmus+ “Food Processing Innovation (FOODI),” which provided co-funding through the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The workshop was attended by approximately 85 participants, including students, staff, researchers, industry professionals, and policy developers. While 45 participants were present on-site, an additional 40 joined via Zoom, allowing for a diverse and inclusive event.

The FOODI project’s primary goal is to enhance capacity building for higher education in South East Asia (SEA), with a particular focus on integrating cutting-edge technologies and innovation management in food processing. Our objective is to leverage local resources and food industries as catalysts for social and economic growth. The FOODI Project is a collaborative effort involving 16 institutions, including 10 from SEA and 6 from Europe, with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) playing a pivotal role.

Furthermore, we are proud to announce that AIT is the first partner institution to launch a groundbreaking Postgraduate Academic Program called “FOOD INNOVATION, NUTRITION AND HEALTH (FINH) – AIT Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Health.” This program, initiated in 2020, aims to address the intersection of food innovation, nutrition, and health, offering students a unique opportunity to explore these critical areas.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the participants, speakers, AIT, FOODI Consortium Partners, donors, as well as the faculty, staff, and students of the FAB Department for their unwavering support and enthusiasm, which contributed significantly to the resounding success of the workshop.
