Exploring Smart Farming and Sustainable Agriculture: A Visit to the Nawat Agricultural Learning Centre

I had an amazing opportunity to visit the Nawat Agricultural Learning Centre, located at the Chitrlada Technology Institute (CDTI) in Rayong Province, Thailand on April 22, 2022. It was an absolute pleasure to meet with the President of CDTI, Assoc. Prof. Khunying Sumonta Promboon, as well as other senior officials of CDTI during my visit to the Centre in Rayong. Our discussions revolved around potential research collaborations and the role of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), particularly in the areas of organic agricultural produce, agri-food value chain development, and providing training to farmers and processors.

The Nawat Agricultural Learning Centre, operating under the Chitrlada Technology Institute, is dedicated to the advancement of smart farming practices. By integrating biotechnology and modern agricultural technology, the Centre aims to enhance the efficiency of cultivation, animal production, and animal breeding, ultimately resulting in the production of high-quality products that meet international standards.

One of the primary objectives of this project is to promote smart farming, which facilitates the optimal utilization of modern technologies to foster sustainable subsistence farming. This initiative also seeks to empower farmers and processors by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate smart farms.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have visited the Nawat Agricultural Learning Centre and engage in fruitful discussions with the esteemed President and other officials. It is my hope that this collaboration between the Chitrlada Technology Institute, the Asian Institute of Technology, and other stakeholders will contribute significantly to the development of the agricultural sector, fostering sustainability and innovation in farming practices.
